What if?

In the next board meeting we will be discussing a potential contract with Psychological Centers, Inc.  to provide services for the RYSE program (unfortunately, PC Inc does not have a website but if anyone has info no them, please let me know).

Question – what if we sign the contract but then determine that RYSE was indeed created by a violation of the Chariho Act? (for details, see this letter

  1. I’m no lawyer (not a big fan either), but it seems pretty clear RYSE exists in violation of Chariho Act.

  2. So far I’ve discovered that the group endorses gay marriage. Regardless of where one stands on this issue, I wish groups like this would stick to their mission and not get involved in controversial issues. Strike one.

  6. LOCATION: URI Multicultural Center Hardge Forum

    Reception to follow

(Copies of “Same-Sex Marriage: The Legal and Psychological Evolution in America,” will be available for purchase. Elizabeth Cantor will offer further discussion and book signing during the reception.)

Same-Sex Marriage and Marriage Equality in Rhode Island
Elizabeth Cantor, PhD, Psychological Centers, Warren, Rhode Island
Jenn Steinfeld, Chair, Marriage Equality Rhode Island
This program will present aspects of same-sex marriage and then look at the current status of efforts to obtain legal recognition of same-sex civil marriage in Rhode Island. First, Elizabeth Cantor will address one of the arguments against same-sex marriage that it is not good for children to be raised in homes with same-sex parents. She will present the social science research on children with same-sex parents, parenting skills of same sex parents and the nature of same-sex relationships. Dr. Cantor will emphasize the important role research should play in making social policy decisions.

  7. I found 3 names associated with Psychological Centers, Inc.

Mark Dumas is listed as the President in a company profile I came across. Annual revnue is listed at $91,000 and the profile says there are 2 employees. I suspect the profile is dated.

Another name associated with the company is Elizabeth Cantor. She’s seems to be heavily involved in the gay marriage issues.

The other name is A. Lopez-Williams. He has a number of research papers on ADHD.

I am suprised there is not more information available about this company. I know it’s asking a lot, but it would be nice if the administration could provide the public with a comprehensive overview of Psychological Centers, Inc. approach and methods to dealing with troubled youth. What are we paying for…in layman terms?

  9. Over on Hopkinton RI Speaks, Mr. Hirst claims that the recent contract vote for Mr. Ricci and pals was taken during executive session. Apparently, something similar was done when Mr. Pini was superintendent and the AG’s office ruled this was in contradiction to Open Meeting Laws. Since the AG ruled it wasn’t willful, no action was taken Mr. Hirst contends that the school committee has once again violated the rules with the latest contract vote, although he does not plan on filing a complaint this time. I find it inconceivable that this time the secret vote was not done willfully. They had to know, don’t you think?

For my part, I’m not overly concerned other about the contract vote since no member had the courage to reject a 4% raise in light of the substandard performance of the administration, but the blatant disregard for the Open Meeting Law (at least as Mr. Hirst describes them) is pretty disconcerting.

  10. Here’s a link to a Chariho Times article questioning the legality of the contract vote:
