Felkner booted out of school board meeting
Although he intended on remaining active in both positions, it became apparent Tuesday night that recently elected Hopkinton councilor William J. Felkner will not be able to sit on the Chariho Regional School Committee for the time being.

The committee tried through several motions to have Felkner leave the table and take a seat in the audience with the rest of the public, which included several Hopkinton councilors. But when he would not, outgoing chairman William Day had to treat Felkner like anyone who was impeding district business.

  1. It appears the Chariho Times thinks it is OK for the SC Chairman to decide who sits on the SC, not the voters of the towns being represented.

  2. Twas a bit ‘fore Thanksgiving, and all thru the week
Billy Boy, Andy P and Lil Andy for sure
Were buzzing and talking to everyone near
A meeting, a meeting Oh dear Oh dear!
Get Mr. Felkner, let’s get him good
Let’s plan and connive as good rats should
We’ll call the attorney and tell him our woes
He’ll write, and speak and blow off our foes
And so they adjourned an illegal meeting
Lawyer and all, without any feeling
For Hopkinton residents, and voters many
They cared for “legality” a first in THEIR mind
A first for sure with the mess left behind
On lawyers, on comrades to the foe we must run out
    The foe would not move
Alas, so they saw, and chanted together
    This is not good
    This is not right
This is not going as it should!
And so Billy boy, he called in the cops
This man is creating a disturbance by golly
He is a foe of mine
    He speaks when he wants
    And demands the truth
    Which we won’t give him,
    And THAT is the truth
And Billy boy chanted to himself the same song
    This is not good
    This is not right
This is not going as it should!
Alas and boo hoo, he queried the troops
And they just followed him down the chute
Can’t do it himself not without these troops
And so he directed the cop to withdraw
Mr. Felkner for good, and all who saw, Chanted
    This is not good
    This is not right
This is not going as it should!
And so I say, as I raise my voice
    Democracy in action?
    Not by anyone’s choice
    This is not good
    This is not right
This is not going as it should!

  3. Excellent poem Mrs. Gardiner.

Mr. Ricci has a key to the Chariho Times backdoor RS. Don’t forget the role Mr. Ricci played in getting a Chariho Times reporter, James Madden, fired when he crossed Mr. Ricci.

The Rag is trash, but at least it looks nice. The Chariho Times may be the most unprofessional newspaper this side of the New York Times. Mr. Felkner probably has more people reading here than the Chariho Times has subscribers. I think it is a one-woman show over there and if you’ve ever read her editorials you’d wonder how she made it out of the 8th grade.

The Chariho Times used to have their own dedicated website…even that’s gone now. They share a website with other weeklies. The website functions as if it were put together by a mental midget. You used to be able to web access some of their stories on a weekly basis. Now you never know when stories will appear….if they appear at all.

The newspaper industry is in turmoil. They long ago sacrificed objectivity and replaced it with ideological rants. They might be able to save themselves if they declared their loyalties and solicited readers from those similarly aligned. I’m afraid they are too stupid to take my advice.

It’s been a long and miserable march to demise for the print media. They can’t sink fast enough for me. I’ll take my local news unfiltered rather than skewed by the media prism every time. Good riddance to them. Journalism majors were among the dumbest in college anyway…what do we expect…Tolstoy?

  4. Mr. Felkner may well have more readers than the Chariho Times, but he deletes any commentary that does not agree with his own narrow viewpoint.

Please don’t kvetch about your Constitutional rights, Mr. Felkner, when you clearly have no respect for open discourse and dissension, unless, of course,it is your own.

  5. Gabriel,
I’ll vouch for just the opposite. I’ve posted comments in opposition to Mr. Felkner and they get posted. Constitutional rights have nothing to do with blogs.

  6. Gabriel cannot argue on th merits of the case so he brings up alleged wrong doings by BF. Another Chariho lackey. They come out of the woodwork to protect there precious 2/3 fail to reach proficiency rate at chariho.

    Nice Job lackies.

  7. Besides, howm many opposing op-eds does the local media run? Do they allow rebuttal when they publish biased articles?

Anybody who spends a few minutes here can easily see Mr. Corrigan is full of it. The internet isn’t perfect…it gives voice to anyone…even me…but it beats the heck out of a few people in the news media controlling information.

Imagine if the Chariho Times article was the only resource to find out about what happened? The article could have been written by Mr. Ricci (sarcasm CP, sarcasm) himself it is so slanted. Without the internet we’d have to accept the Chariho Times storytelling. Now the turth can come out when they misrepresent events. The actions of individuals such as Mr. Felkner, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Gardiner and many others are laudable. They allow us to access the truth if we are interested in finding it. Mr. Corrigan doesn’t appear to be a big fan of truth.

  8. Gabriel, I do not moderate comments. The system flags ones with hyperlinks, but othewise they are posted immediately. YOu can screen capture and prove if I ever deleted anyone’s comments. Never happened other than when comments were vulgar – and it hasn’t happened in a long time (most notably, when Andy McQuade tried to use someone elses name and insulted Barbara Capalbo).

Nice try, but this site has a 2 year track record of letting everyone have a voice. I even headline letters from Bob Petit, Andy M, or any other member who wants to write to this group.

Maybe you have me confused with the Westerly Sun. Notice they never did print my letter before the bond vote. Sent in 3 weeks ahead of deadline. Not printing an elected official’s commentary – Maybe thats why the print is dying.

  9. Speaking of full disclosure. Lets look at your ISP address (which is registered when someone makes a comment) –
    Author : Gabriel Corrigan (IP: 131.109.7.5 , sentry.chariho.k12.ri.us) E-mail : tenasity@cox.net

Gosh, lookey there. A Chariho ISP address. Is someone using Chariho resources to do political activity????? Thanks for the ammo (and violation using tax dollars to attack an elected representative, eh?)

    Comment by Bill Felkner — November 20, 2008 @ 2:18 pm | Reply

  10. Wow, pretty gutsy using a Chariho computer to make political attacks on Mr. Felkner. How stupid must he/she be to use a Chariho ISP.

Not only that, whoever Gabriel is, they are posting at 9:21 AM. I would guess they are not only using a Chariho computer, but posting while they are supposed to be working. Morons like this are in charge of educating our children…maybe we’re the morons for allowing Chariho to fall this far.

  11. Funny how “Gabriel Corrigan” is the same name as a character in a book call “The Dark River”. Apparently it’s a scifi trilogy, something like a Harry Potter all grown up story.

  12. Well this Harry Potter hasn’t grown up and is writing nonsense for inside Chariho school. If it’s an employee, they should be fired.

  13. The information in post #9 was all too obvious to me….ref post #6.

    RS <—………Why you ask…

…because they are the representatives of the people teaching our children. Sickening.

I hereby declare them all Invertebrates*.

  14. I was impressed when Post #9 confirmed RS’s supposition in Post #6. Apparently RS is able to smell a Chariho lackey across cyberspace.

  15. I would have to say that ISP address leads right into the administration building. To find this ISP address upon entering this well kept building, take a right turn; go all the way down the hallway. At the end, turn make a left 90 degree left turn and enter the door on the immediate right. Continue past the secretary and file cabinets and into the door in front of you. Enter. Oh my goodness, who do we have here?? Look at all this cherry furniture, with cherry bookshelves, all this space. Wow, what a huge desk; there is nothing on it except desk accessories, in cherry, still! If you look very closely you will see a very little man (that sits on teacher’s manuals to see above the desk) sitting there with his head resting on his right hand, 3 fingers on his cheek, his thumb under his ear and one near his mouth. Is he trying to hide, or does he not want anyone to hear him?
This stance indicates someone has something to hide and uses weak, pathetic, useless individuals to pursue his own agenda. In addition, since when did Andy M. get a voice? All these years I thought he was a mute, but he had a dialogue prepared, (or, maybe someone else wrote it for him, I question his intellect; he is obviously a follower), which he reiterated so “eloquently”, so said the councilman(?) (Are you sure he passed the bar?). Andy P.’s head kept bobbing up and down like a toy dog in a car window, agreeing with the speaker. (I am sorry. A councilman that does not know if Mr. Felkner was allowed to sit at the table with the school committee which he was elected to serve until 2010, beginning his speech with the reason he was asked to attend was because of Mr. Felkener’s attendance, and his only answer was “The courthouse is open at 9:00am tomorrow morning?”; and he had notice! Who elected this guy? What a waste of taxpayers’ money. He must be a related to Andy M., they have too much in common.
There you have it Mr. Felkner, the Chariho’s computer illiterates. You had better believe they use computers on Chariho time to shop, browse, email, etc. I have seen the screens left open on teacher’s desks. It is amazing how much the taxpayer’s do not know! Nice touch downloading the meeting on YouTube. They have no idea it is a way to get a message out to the world!

  16. Good point…it’s not as if the lawyer was making these determinations on the spot. He had been given notice, but the community wasn’t given the same respect. The courthouse could have also been used by Chariho. They could have filed their own case at 9 AM. They could have even asked for a ruling last week. They chose instead to disenfranchise Hopkinton…and who from Hopkinton sat there saying nary a word about the whole thing…hmmmm.
